Papers, 1902-1930.

The J. J. Moosmann Papers document Moosmann's career with E.I. du Pont de Nemours. The collection primarily reflects his work in the sales department of the Chemical Products Division. Included is correspondence with representatives of the General Motors Corporation and Fisher Body Company describing Moosmann's efforts to market Duco for automobile finishes. There are also technical reports on the various lacquers and finishes that Du Pont was selling during the 1920s and a copy of a 1925 report by the Nobel Chemical Company analyzing the market for cellulose finishes. There are a variety of studies on the competitive situation in the lacquer and finishes market, memoranda on sales strategies, and studies of price policies, and the export business. There is also information on the problems that were associated with recruiting skilled labor to apply Duco finishes, and issues of occupational health and safety associated with the exposure to benzene fumes.
